Adult Education and Literacy offers free instruction for adults wanting to improve their basic academic skills. The classes provide individualized learning programs for students who want to prepare for the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam, learn English as a second language or improve their reading , math and writing skills.
Volunteers are needed to assist classroom instructors. Prior teaching experience is not required and free training is provided. Volunteers may help with math, language arts, reading, or clerical and record-keeping needs . Qualifications to be an AEL volunteer include a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma. Volunteers should be able to relate to a variety of people and maintain student confidentiality. Successful volunteers also process the following traits: patience, optimism, friendliness, a sense of humor and the desire to make a difference in someone’s life!
